Dark N' Lovely

7.23.2012

Hey Ladies! Very excited to say that, today, I have been featured on Cherrie Amore’s Dark-skinned Girls Rock Series! DSGR is an encouraging series that features women and their love and struggle with their skin color. I love what Cherrie is doing because so often modern day colorism, for women, is ignored and unmentioned among the black community, mainstream media and even places such as Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.

Living in an era where “Light-skinned” and “Redbone” are constantly glorified in music and videos, and your favorite singer Beyonce, Rihanna, or Ciara looks nothing like you---an uplifting series as this is much needed. Know, that you don’t have to be a blogger to be featured in this series. So, if you are a Dark-skinned girl that rocks I encourage you to submit and spread the word of self-love! Thank you very much for this opportunity Cherrie, keep doing what you’re doing :)

God bless and much love,

Top: Birthday gift
Skinnes: Labouji
Necklace: Demabiz
Watch: Polo
Clutch: Rainbow

So, I was totally brought back to the past when I pulled this top out of my birthday bag. I was almost instantly reminded of the old school cartoon character Bam Bam from the Flintstones! However, this was a Bam that was revisited, revamped, modernized and made chic. The orange/coral color and summer sheer fabric, made it perfect for a night on the town with the girls. I paired it with some cobalt blue skinnies, comfy nude heels, gold accessories and neon polish to complete the look. I was feeling good...so I wanted to wear vibrant colors to reflect that without being overbearing. I opted for my signature "night on the town face" heavy liner and nude lips. I swear I need to start experimenting with my makeup more lol. Give me ideas! lol. Naw… but, needless to say, I had a great time with my boo's and can't wait for our next date :)
Much love,

Young Money.

7.09.2012

I ran across two very interesting articles addressing being overweight and how it affects your money. Apparently, the bigger you are the less money you make. Especially when it comes to being an overweight Caucasian woman. So, even if you make good money, you’re probably not making what you could if you weighed less. On the contrary, men do not face the same discrimination as women do. The articles also touched on race and marriage stats. Here are a few snippets from the articles, thought I’d share…

“With the base being the average size woman and the salary she got (on average), thin women got about $7,000 more, heavy women got $9,000 less and very heavy women got almost $19,000 less than the base salary.”

“Other times it is a matter of appearances or a belief that “people of size,” as Mr. Roehling terms the obese, are lazy, weak-willed or considered too unattractive to interact with customers.”

The bias is more pronounced toward white women than white men, Mr. Roehling said: “Blacks are more accepting of large people and whites are more accepting of overweight black females.”

“…test results showed that bias against blacks and the overweight was about equal, but that while people rarely admit to race bias, they freely admit to weight bias. “There is no social sanction against saying you don’t like fat people,” Mr. Nosek said.”

“That heavier people have a harder time getting married is pretty well supported,” said Jeffery Sobal, a professor at Cornell University who has studied obesity. Marriage can be crucial in wealth creation, especially when a person “marries up” to someone with money or a higher education. That may be a rarer occurrence for the obese. “There is a stigma against the overweight that plays out in the social class world,” The end result? The obese accumulate only about half the assets of the normal-size American.
“A chicken-or-egg question invariably pops up. Are people fat because they are poor or poor because they are fat?”

“What happens to a person who loses weight? Mr. Zagorsky said a drastic drop in weight corresponds to an increase in wealth.”

So, what do you think about this?

Blazer: Fashion Trend
White Tee: Red Tag
Heels: Birthday gift
Stonewashed Jeans: Milky Way
Necklace: Demabiz

Hey ladies! I don't know about yall but I am loving the fact that coral is everywhere this summer! I love the peach/coral family and I never really used to see it much when shopping...but now it seems to be everywhere I go and I couldn't be happier! I found this coral soft fabric blazer at a little boutique not far from my house for under $20 bucks. I decided to wear it on a chill day of visiting with my BFF Nicole and god baby Rowan. I threw on a white tee, jeans and chunky tribal print heels to complete the look. Much fun that day, and I can't wait to see TT lil' man again. Him toe toe cute! Almost makes me want another...almost. lol.

Much love,
